Nachi-Katsuura

June 16, 2010

Kata Bay to NachiKatsuura : 31 nautical miles
08:50 Departed from Kata
11:30 Nachi-Katsuura

It was fine day. We departed from the Owase Sea Sied View hotel.

We arrived Nachikatsuura port . It was a fine cruise.
I kept the engine at 2800 RPM. The Lukia sometimes ran over 14 knots.

The gate of the Nachikatsuura port is very narrow. However the port is wide.

If you want to moor your boat to the quay of the port , you need the approval of fisherman's union in Owase. The fee is very cheap(240yen per day).

While mooring, someone talked to us and told us where water and the bathroom were.
After a while, We went to the Nachikatsuura waterfall and Nachi-Taisya which is a famous shrine.

In ancient times, Emperor Jinmu's(considered the first emperor of Japan) eastbound expedition successfully landed here.
Emperor Jinmu had to pass through the deep forest. A big three-legged crow called Yatagarasu come to Jinmu and led him to Yamato province. It was a winning factor of the war.

The "Ya"  of Yatagarasu means "eight" and "ta" is a unit of length(i.e. width of palm). The crow  was 8 palm's width in size... Very Big! Of course, it is just a legend.
Yatagarasu is now the mascot of a winning team in Japan's soccer league.

Photo is Yatagarasu.

The hotel Urashima is located on the island. We need to take on the ferry.
Summer has come.
